Ugarit

4.5/5

Ugarit; The capital of a kingdom in the 14th century B.C, is considered one of the most luxurious parts of the old east.

Discovered haphazardly in 1928 when a Syrian peasant plow accidentally hit ruins, and it is noteworthy that the discovered part doesn’t exceed a quarter of the total area of the site.

its buildings were constructed by using carved stones; three castles and numerous temples were discovered in it too.

Ugarit can be looked as a huge factor in the evolution of our culture, as it presented one of the oldest alphabets in history that dates back to the 4th century B.C, it’s also considered as the true founder of western music, because the oldest of musical pieces written which goes back to the 2nd century B.C was discovered in 1950 in Ugarit.

There are two theories about how it came to an end in 1180 B.C in a catastrophe, it either was a devastating earthquake, or an invasion.
